If you hold a granted patent in Indonesia, the end of 2025 is not only about paying annuity fees. There is one additional obligation you need to take care of: submitting a Patent Working Statement to the IP Office (DJKI). The deadline falls on 31 December 2025, or follows the annuity schedule of your patent.
And this is where many patent owners start wondering, “What exactly do we need to report?”
The answer is actually simple—the government just wants to know whether your granted patent is being used in Indonesia.
What Needs to Be Reported?
A Patent Working Statement basically explains three key points:
whether the patent has been worked or not,
how the implementation is carried out, and
who is responsible for it (the patent holder or a licensee).
The report is not lengthy, but it needs to be clear and factual. If there is production underway, a process being practiced, or a licensing arrangement in place, those already count as implementation.
What If Your Patent Is Not Operational Yet?
This is very common.
Many companies are still in the stage of:
setting up production facilities,
making technical adjustments,
running product trials or pilot testing, or
waiting for regulatory approvals.
As long as there is actual progress, you can still report. The key is to present it realistically—not just filling space for the sake of completion.
Typically, patent holders should at least prepare:
development timelines,
technical documents or trial records,
agreements with partners or licensees, or
commercialisation plans.
This shows that the patent is not merely sitting idle as an exclusive right.
Why Does the Government Require This?
The reasoning is straightforward. The government wants to ensure that patented technology:
is truly being utilised,
generates commercial or knowledge transfer impact, or
is at minimum in the implementation pipeline.
Not just kept unused.
Later on, this statement may serve as supporting documentation if there is:
follow-up clarification from DJKI,
a review or audit,
status adjustment, or
further evaluation.
How AMR Supports Patent Owners
With more than 30 years of experience assisting local and multinational companies, the real challenge is not in filling out the form. The real challenge is explaining an implementation phase that has not fully materialised.
Our support usually covers:
👉 reviewing the actual technical stage of implementation,
👉 structuring the narrative so it aligns with your industry context,
👉 selecting appropriate supporting documents, and
👉 managing submission to DJKI.
The outcome is straightforward, a report that is administratively safe, technically accurate, and reflective of your current operational status.
Why Preparing Early Matters
The obligation to submit a Patent Working Statement applies to all patent holders. Ideally, it should not be prepared toward the end of the year. The earlier it is drafted, the less likely you will receive additional questions or clarification requests.
If you want to ensure your report is well-structured and genuinely represents your project progress, AMR is ready to assist—from assessment through to official submission at DJKI.
